Shingles - medically referred to as herpes zoster - is a rash that's painful and that manifests itself in the form of a band of blisters. These blisters run riot all around your back and may spread themselves onto your chest as well. Shingles can also affect your face, neck or scalp.
The varicella-zoster virus is responsible for this rather harrowing skin rash. Incidentally, this is the same virus that takes the blame for causing chickenpox. After you are through with chickenpox, varicella-zoster decides to be dormant and may erupt as shingles sometime later.
Shingles won't kill you but the damage it causes the skin might make you want to kill the virus itself. Your skin becomes sensitive and remains painful for months - and at times for years - after the rash has disappeared.
To combat shingles, you must deal with your stress levels. See to it that you relaxe more often. Avoid activities that make you tired. You can also apply calamine lotion to the skin affected by shingles. Remember to clean the blisters everyday with soap and water. In addition to this, you can also try cool wet compresses. Mix white vinegar with water and use this mixture as a compress three times a day.

A vitamin B12 injection can be very helpful. Anything that boosts the immune system can be helpful. Acupuncture is a good approach. Dr. Coleen Murphy, ND www.natmedworks.com

Put on a paste. To dry up blisters and soothe itching, make a paste from water mixed with baking powder and spread that on the shingles rash, suggests Dr. Taylor.

I have had shingles myself and know your pain. The number one thing I would do is take 1000mg of lysine every day. Lysine prevents the absorbtion of arginine which the shingles virus needs to stay active. Put hydrogen peroxide gel on the blisters every two to three hours until they dry up. natural-cure-remedy.com
