Dip a swab of cottonwool in the fresh onion juice, and then' plug the 'complaining' tooth with it. It is a little pungent and smelly, but will disinfect the inflamed tooth. Gargle with warm water.
This will help to get rid of toothache. Clove oil is specific for this problem. One may not have clove oil at home.
In that case, powder some cloves very fine and make a strong decoction (literally a concentrate). Soak a cotton wool swab in this, place it on the hurting tooth, and very gently clamp your jaws tight. The medicament will reach the injured surface and soothe the pain.

Apply cold compress to the outside of the cheek just outside the area of pain. This numbs the area and masks the pain. Cold compresses are advised till you go and meet the dentist. Do not use heat for toothache as it can spread infection. Home remedies using garlic and clove are known to be particularly helpful for toothache.
