Vaginal Odor Cure

Is there something I can take orally to prevent vaginal odor
(20 Apr 2010)

Vaginal odor can prove to be quite a distressing condition. This condition can be brought about due to several reasons, some of which include; bacterial infections, yeast infections, sexually transmitted diseases such as trichomonas or trich and poor hygiene. Hence taking anything orally is not the solution to this problem.

Home remedies however, can help in treating this condition. Keep the vaginal area dry and clean at all times. Remember, warm and moist environments, create an ideal site for bacteria and other microbes to breed and multiply. You can use a mild anti-bacterial soap to clean the concerned area. Switch to wearing cotton underwear and loose fitting clothing, they will help your skin breathe.

Garlic is known to contain anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal an anti-bacterial properties. Hence it serves as a great remedy for this particular condition. If the vaginal odor is the outcome of a bacterial or yeast infection, then this remedy will prove to be extremely beneficial. Mash 2-3 garlic pods, so as to form a thick paste. Apply a fine layer of this paste onto the vaginal area. After about 10-15 minutes, wash the application off with some warm water. This remedy needs to be performed twice a day, on a regular basis, till you begin to notice a visible difference. Slice 2-3 garlic pods into fine slices. Wrap the slices in a small piece of cheese cloth. Now tie the cloth and very gently insert it into the vagina. Allow the cloth to stay there for about 5-10 minutes, after which you can take it out. This is also known to be a very effective remedy when it comes to treating vaginal odor.

Tea tree oil is also highly popular when it comes to treating this condition, due to its anti-fungal properties. Add a few drops of the oil (2-3 drops would suffice) into a cup of water. Apply the resultant mixture onto the vaginal area and let it air dry naturally for about 15-20 minutes. Thereafter, rinse it off with some warm water. Water is also important when it comes to treating this condition, particularly if it has been brought about by a yeast infection. Consume a minimum of 8-10 glasses of water per day; this will help in treating the odor while also keeping a check on a yeast infection, if any. If none of these remedies seem to work, and the odor persists, then consulting a specialist is recommended, so as to get to the root cause of the problem.
