Vitiligo, also called white spot disease or leukoderma, is a disease in which the skin loses its pigment due to the destruction of melanocytes.

In my practice, I've found skin lesions to be some of the most difficult to diagnose.  So, for a definitive diagnosis, please consult a qualified health care practitioner.

Vitiligo typically presents as an area of pigment loss in the skin.

It looks patchy, with well defined borders, and is flat.  It can appear on arms, hands, trunk, face etc.  It can be definitively diagnosed by a skin sample, which shows a loss of the pigment-producing cells called melanocytes.  (Melanin is the pigment which gives our skin "color.")  The cause of vitiligo appears to be related to some imbalances in the immune system, and may also have some link to family history.   http://www.countrydoc.com
