Remedy for Long and Beautiful Fingernails

I am 15yr old, I want to grow my nails longer and beautiful. Could you suggest me any home remedy

The fingernails serve to protect the fingertips from injury or trauma. The nails are a component of the skin’s outer layer and are made up of keratin, which is a kind of protein. The nails are situated above the nail bed and grow to about 1.2 millimeters each week. Nails that are healthy have a good supply of blood and as such appear pink. The color of the nails also depends upon the color of the skin. For example, those with fair skin have pink nails, while darker skinned individuals may have brown nails. The health of the body is reflected upon the nails, and nail problems are often indicative of other health concerns. Strong and healthy nails require an adequate intake of protein through the diet.

Some common nail problems include brittleness which results due to iron deficiencies, problems of blood circulation and disturbances in the endocrine system. Discoloration of the nails may occur due to cigarette smoking or use of hair dyes. In cold temperatures, dryness of the skin can occur which also affects the condition of the nails. Exposure to detergents, soaps or chlorine can also damage the nails. White spots are a common nail problem which results due to calcium deficiency. They can also occur when the nail is hit against something. A greenish discoloration of the nails is indicative of a fungal infection. Ridges sometimes appear along the surface of the nails. Horizontal ridges may be caused due to genetic factors, while vertical ridges may occur as a result of improper nutrition.

The key to having healthy and beautiful nails is to supply your body with proper nutrition. The nails require calcium in order to grow long and strong, and hence you need to ensure that your calcium intake is sufficient. Soaking the nails for a few minutes in olive oil or wheat germ is a very beneficial remedy for the nails. Before applying nail polish, make sure you apply a clear coat to the nails. This will prevent discoloration from the nail polish. Avoid biting the nails, and if you need to work with your hands using water, then it is advisable to wear rubber gloves. After washing your hands, it is also a good idea to moisturize the hands, including the fingertips and nail area. Moisturizers containing vitamin E are very beneficial for the nails and help to keep them healthy. For filing the nails, use an emery board instead of a metal file.
