Cure Food Poisoning

How do I treat food poisoning?
(11 Mar 2010)

Food poisoning is a very common condition that is usually very mild, but the more severe types of the condition could be fatal. Recent studies show that food poisoning is the root cause of over 76 million illnesses as well as about 325,000 hospitalizations every year in the United States of America. About 5,000 of these cases inevitably end in death.

Food poisoning is primarily caused by a careless attitude with regards to the kind of food one consumes. Some people have the tendency to refrigerate food for a number of days and then consume them later without even heating the food up. Heating it will, to some extent, kill any bacteria that may be present on the food. A few hours later, the individual is likely to feel squeamish and unwell. Some of the more common symptoms of the condition include abdominal cramping, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and malaise. Depending largely on the type of organism causing the illness, one is also likely to experience dehydration, bloody stools, fever and chills. The more common problematic organisms that lead to food poisoning include salmonella, E.coli and listeria which are very likely to contaminate food substances such as poultry, eggs, milk and meat.

Prevention of the condition revolves primarily around the hygienic and proper refrigeration of your food items.  It is also essential that you clean the refrigerator ever so often to reduce the amount of bacteria present within. Make it a point to wash your hands before cooking and eating your food. Never leave any food at room temperature for more than 2 or 3 hours. Since the condition is rather common, there are a number of effective home remedy treatment options that will prove to be quite beneficial. For example, you can try mixing a tablespoon of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar in a cup of hot water, and drink it before a meal to prevent any kind of acid indigestion. Herbal teas of mint, raspberry and chamomile are also known to help significantly with the recuperation. Another option would be to take a small piece of ginger and, create and mash it into a paste with the help of some buttermilk. Consume this concoction about 2 to 3 times a day in order to experience significant relief. Ginger can also be mixed in with some lemon juice if you suddenly feel the onset of vomiting or nausea. Drinking a couple of tablespoons of undiluted apple cider vinegar will also help significantly.
