Eczema, or dermatitis, is one of the most common types of skin afflictions that affect the human body. When present in clearly visible and prominent locations of the body it can be a source of substantial embarrassment for the affected individual. Eczema can manifest at any age but is most commonly known to affect infants.
Some of the factors that place an individual at a higher risk of developing the condition include a family history of the condition as well as suffering from some kind of allergy such as asthma or hay fever. Studies have shown that the condition affects almost 15 million individuals in the United States of America alone. Some people may even suffer from the condition right through their lives. The most common symptom of the condition is the redness and excessive itchiness of the skin around the affected area. During the initial phases of development, the skin may seem to be extremely itchy, which is something that will reduce in intensity later on, but still be present. Some people may even experience the eruption of blisters and oozing lesions, but the condition could also result in dry and scaly skin. Some of the more common areas of the body that are affected by eczema include the face, hands and insides of the elbows.
When affected by Eczema, it is essential that you avoid exposing your skin to sudden changes in temperature, harsh soaps or detergents, stress as well as any foods that are known to react badly with your body and cause a reaction. Because of the fact that eczema is such a common condition, a number of rather effective home remedy treatment options have been developed all over the world over the course of a number of decades. For example, one of the most effective treatment options is to simply apply some amount of coconut oil over the affected area of skin. Applying a mudpack over the eczema affected area will also prove to be rather effective as will the application of a cold compress or cold wet fomentation. Another option would be to make a paste using 1 tablespoon each of turmeric powder and margosa leaves and apply the paste over the affected skin regularly over a period of a few weeks. Since sunbathing helps kill harmful bacteria on the skin, it can also be a very effective treatment option in fighting off eczema. However, this should not be over done as excessive amounts of sunbathing could lead to a number of other medical complications including skin cancer.
