Quite contrary to its given name, a condition of ringworm is not caused by a worm, but primarily by a type of fungi that is known to thrive in warm and moist environments. Also known as Tinea, the condition will start to develop on the surface of the skin and some may even produce circular spots. It is important to remember that these dermaphrodytes, that cause the condition, can only live on the dead layers of skin, obtaining its nutrition from the keratin which is a protein present in these cells.
During its manifestation phase, the condition will start to appear red, scaly or even patchy and will tend to be extremely itchy and uncomfortable. While it continues to develop the condition will then seemingly resemble a series of rings with some bumpy or scaly borders. While this is the most common symptom, it is not absolutely necessary for the condition to develop a ring pattern around the infection. The condition may also be referred to by a number of other names – largely depending on the location of the body that it has manifested itself on. For example, when a person suffers from ringworm on the legs, it is known as athletes foot while the condition on the scalp will cause an eruption of a pimple before the skin starts to become excessively flaky or scaly.
One of the most common avenues for the infection to spread from one person to another is by the medium of direct contact. Using another person’s toiletries such as a towel will also increase the possibility of the condition spreading from one person to another.
Since the condition has been around for centuries, there are a number of natural treatment options that would help significantly. Cutting a few slices of raw papaya and rubbing it on the ringworm patches has had significant success all over the world. You can also try creating a paste from some mustard seeds and applying it externally over the ringworm patches after having thoroughly washed your skin. Turmeric is another very effective treatment option when dealing with ringworm and should be applied externally over the affected parts of your skin. For better and more effective results, you can also try mixing one teaspoon of turmeric juice with an equal amount of honey and drinking the solution. In order to avoid the development of ringworm in the future, it is essential that you increase your intake of seeds, nuts, cereals and fresh fruits.
