The prostate gland is a prominent part of the human reproductive system and is concerned with the creation and secretion of fluids that help transport sperm. The gland is located just below the bladder and surrounds the urethra – which is the tube that helps drain the bladder. A prostate infection will usually be characterized by the enlargement of the gland and is quite commonly experienced in men over the age of 50. While there is no crystal clear explanation for the development of prostate infections, some experts believe that the male sex hormones play a prominent role.

Studies show that almost 50% of all men are likely to develop prostatitis at some point of time in their lives. This condition is more common than other medical conditions such as prostate cancer or benign prostatic hypertrophy. The symptoms of the condition will largely depend on the type of prostate infection the individual suffers from. The condition can be widely categorized into 4 main types. Acute bacterial infection – where the infection lies in the urinary tract and is characterized by the presence of bacteria and white blood cells in the urine, chronic bacterial prostatitis – where the infection is rather uncommon but reoccurring. This infection is capable of spreading to the bladder as well and needs to be correctly diagnosed before any treatment or medication can be administered. Chronic nonbacterial prostitis is the most common form of prostitis infection and is commonly detected in cases of infertility. Prostatodynia, also known as chronic pelvic pain syndrome, is not characterized by the presence of bacterial infection in the urinary tract, but the pain can be significant.

In order to effectively treat the condition, it is imperative to change a persons overall lifestyle and certain traits such as the kind of food one eats and the consumed would play a significant role in deciding how  severely the person would be affected by the condition. Any kind of junk food, sugar, grains as well as foods that contain chemical additives should be strictly avoided. Avoid being seated for extensive periods of time as this is likely to restrict the flow of blood to your prostate – thereby suffocating the gland to a slow death. Get a sufficient amount of exercise over the course of the day while also learning to relax and de-stress as stress has the ability to pollute the blood with toxins – thereby preventing the kidneys from cleaning the blood properly.
