When the blood pressure falls below normal it is medically known as hypotension, i.e. low blood pressure.

In this condition, basically the force of blood being pumped by the heart into the arteries is very weak due to a weakness in the system. The main symptoms of low blood pressure include weakness and fatigue. This is often accompanied by dizziness and fainting, especially when the blood supply to the brain is decreased.

The main cause for low blood pressure is malnutrition which affects the tissues in the walls of the blood vessels, making them flabby and stretched out. This in turn affects the supply of oxygen to the various organs and tissues in the body. Bleeding due to an injury or even internal slow bleeding in the kidneys, bladder or the gastrointestinal tract can also lead to a fall in blood pressure. Other causes include certain medical conditions and medications as well as pregnancy. Sometimes even emotional stress can affect the blood pressure, causing it to dip, especially if you have been suffering from prolonged depression or frustration. There are several simple home remedies that can help to treat and prevent low blood pressure.

Since low blood pressure is directly related to a diet deficient in essential nutrients, you should ensure that your diet includes adequate proteins, the Vitamins of the B group as well as Vitamin C. Vitamin B is particularly important for stimulating production of adrenaline and normalizing the blood pressure. You can focus on a diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables with plenty of milk. Beet root is beneficial for treating low blood pressure. Daily consumption of 1 glass of fresh beetroot juice or consumption of beetroot in salads shows immediate results in patients with low blood pressure. Indian Spikenard is also beneficial for low blood pressure and take approximately 30 grains of the herb with a pinch of camphor and cinnamon once a day. Alternately you can prepare an infusion with approximately 20 g of the herb in 250 ml water and drink this thrice daily. You can also consume a glass of warm milk with 6 to 7 almonds soaked overnight and crushed in the morning. This helps to increase the stamina and normalize the blood pressure. In addition to this, it is crucial to avoid undue physical exertion and mental or emotional stress. You should ensure you get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily and also take the time to do some light sports and exercises, aerobics or even a brisk walk so that there is a healthy circulation of blood in your system.
