Dry hair is a very common problem, and so is the problem of hair fall. And in most cases, they are found to be interrelated – dry hair often leads to damage and hair fall. The hair becomes dry when the oil and moisture content of the hair and scalp starts to dip.

This leads to the weakening of the hair roots as well, and results in hair fall. There can be many reasons for the dip in oil and moisture from the hair – unsuitable cosmetics, highly chlorinated water, exposure to too much of sun, pollution, and other environmental factors like humidity and temperature. However, besides these external causes of dry hair, there may be some other internal reasons for it as well.

Long illness, poor diet, stress, and certain medications can also lead to dry hair.

To treat dry hair, you should apply hair oil to your hair and scalp regularly. Coconut oil is considered to be extremely effective for remedying dry hair. This is because coconut oil is rich in several fatty acids that help to fortify the hair root and shaft thus making the hair less vulnerable to damage. You can also mix in a little Olive oil and almond oil. The Indian gooseberry is extremely beneficial in treating damaged hair. Grate a few of these fruits and apply the juice to your hair and scalp. Alternatively you can get a hair oil that contains Indian gooseberry extract. To increase the effectiveness of the hair oil, make sure that you leave it in overnight. Wash your hair the next morning with slightly warm water to get rid of the excess oil. Do not use hot water as this will strip your hair completely of all the oil and will cause further drying. Another good remedy is to apply a paste of henna, eggs, coconut oil, and olive oil on the scalp. Keep this henna-egg-oil paste on for about an hour and then wash it off with water. This paste will act as a good conditioner for your dry hair. You can also use a little bit of apple cider vinegar while shampooing your hair. Apple cider vinegar is a good conditioner and will make your hair silky and lustrous. Among other known remedies for hair, you can try out the mayonnaise and beer treatment. Massage your scalp with mayonnaise for about an hour and then wash off your hair properly with water. Afterwards, you can pour beer on your hair and allow it to remain on for some time before a final wash with water.

Besides these home remedies, you should also take proper care of your diet and take some measures to protect your hair. Eat plenty of vegetables and fresh fruits, and drink a sufficient amount of water throughout the day to keep yourself properly hydrated. Do not expose your hair to direct sunlight; wear protective gear to cover your hair. Also, maintain basic hygiene of your hair and choose your cosmetics with care.
