Arthritis is a disease of the bone joints, especially of knees and wrists. The common symptoms of arthritis include swelling, stiffness, and pain around the joints. The pain of the joints, in turn, may also induce fever and fatigue in the body.

There can be several reasons for arthritis, including wear and tear of the joints due to overuse, stress, or injury. Sometimes, arthritis may also result from hormonal imbalances, poor lifestyle, and hereditary factors. There are various types of arthritis, but the two most common types are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Arthritis treatment is usually achieved by dietary changes, mild physiotherapy, and alteration in lifestyle. The first most important thing to do is to avoid additional wear and tear of the joints. Do not lift or pull heavy weights, and do not put any undue stress on the joints. To soothe the pain use alternate hot and cold compresses on the joints. Heat up a moist pad and press it on the joint to relieve the pain. After a few minutes, you can press an ice pack on the area of pain. This alternate hot and cold compress will provide much relief from the joint pain and decrease the swelling too. Massaging the joints with warm coconut or mustard oil also helps relieve the pain. You can boil a few pieces of camphor with the oil for more effectiveness. Other than oil, massaging the affected joints with freshly extracted vegetable juice is also good for remedying arthritis pain. Potato, red beet, and carrot juices are the most commonly applied vegetable juices. Juices of pineapple are also known to be effective for arthritis. Eating sesame seeds, which are soaked overnight, each morning is another good remedy for arthritis. Garlic is known to have anti-inflammatory properties and can be good for reducing arthritic inflammation.

Besides the remedies described, you should also take care of your diet. Eat lot of fresh vegetables and fruit juices daily. Ensure that you drink sufficient amount of water to keep your body healthy and hydrated. You should also eat foods rich in vitamin C and calcium, both of which are known to be good for the bones. Calcium can be sourced from dairy products, while vitamin C can be had from citrus fruits like lemon and oranges. As far as possible, avoid alcohol, preserved foods, red meat, and smoking. Finally, consult a physiotherapist and find out some exercises that help you fight arthritis.
