Asthma Cause
I am an asthma patient. I came to know about this just a week ago. I have a daughter of 3 years. Is there any chance of infection to her or my husband and other family members?

The first thing you should know about asthma is that it is not a contagious disease. Do not confuse it with something like a common cold or tuberculosis, which can be transmitted through bodily fluids. Asthma is a disease that can afflict a person due to a large number of reasons.
It is always good to bone up on your general knowledge about the disease before you come to any conclusion about it. If possible, you should try and return to your doctor and request general information about asthma. Most family practitioners would have that kind of information easily available with them at all times, and they would gladly give it to you.
It is good to be aware that there are various types of asthma.
- There is allergic asthma, which is fairly common. It is caused by allergies to various substances around you, such as dust, fiber, grass, pollen and other such things. It is estimated that about Ninety percent of all asthma sufferers fall under this category.
- There is also psycho somatic asthma, which is a most peculiar type of asthma. It is the kind of asthma that is brought on when a person is suffering from emotional or mental stress. When the stress cannot be handled or controlled, then a person suffering from psychosomatic asthma will suffer from an attack of breathlessness and will need therapeutic assistance.
- Intrinsic asthma typically affects women over 40. Although this type of asthma may be caused by perfumes, cleaning agents and fumes, unlike allergic asthma, it is not due to an allergic reaction. This type of asthma is also less responsive to treatment.
- Asthma can also be inherited. As a matter of fact, this is one of the commonest types of asthma, and it follows all the general methodologies of any inherited disease.
You can rest easy on the thought that you cannot transfer your asthma to your child or husband. However, you should be aware that there is a possibility your daughter may inherit it from you. This would generally be possible if you were also suffering from inherited asthma to begin with. You should be careful about your condition, however. It is also good to aware that asthma can also be fatal if left unchecked and untreated. This makes it extremely important for you to determine a proper course of medical treatment for your asthmatic condition. You can also make some subtle changes in your diet and lifestyle which will help along with the treatment. A regular routine of mild exercise and a fat and chemical free diet will help out a lot. You should also add honey to your diet, as it helps to reduce and control asthmatic attacks.
