The home remedies for dandruff and toe nail fungus both use apple cider vinegar. Would regular white vinegar be just as good?

In remedial measures that call for the use of apple cider vinegar, it is advisable to stick to the prescribed vinegar. The reason for this is that regular vinegar may very well be too strong to use. Typically, inorganic and regular white vinegar is a harsh, chemically formulated substance.

This is the reason it is not advised that you use it in your remedies for things such as dandruff and toenail fungus. While this type of vinegar will probably work to cure your fungus faster, do remember that once the fungus is cleared, you may be left with delicate and sensitive skin beneath it, which will also be affected by the vinegar. The vinegar can cause other abrasive problems that may even be worse than the fungus you had.

You may also experience rashes and burning skin.

In order to get rid of dandruff, you should try your best to buy organic vinegar. Since you will be using this on your scalp, it is better not to try any harsher alternatives. If you have a nasty and strong case of dandruff, then apple cider vinegar is particularly useful, because apples also have strong healing properties.

If for some reason you cannot get apple cider vinegar or any other organic vinegar, there are other options, such as hydrogen peroxide, that you can use for problems such as toenail fungus. Dilute 100 per cent hydrogen peroxide with equal parts of water and pour liberally over the affected toenail. You can also use strong mentholated cream, the kind used to get rid of chest congestion or a cold, to kill the fungus. This will kill the fungus, mostly from the root and you will be able to get rid of the problem altogether.  You can try to switch over to a citrus based shampoo too. The presence of citrus substances will help to fight dandruff better.

You can also try the following home remedy: Crush a fresh onion, a few pods of garlic and squeeze the juice. To a tablespoon of this, add two tablespoons of water and apply liberally to your scalp. Leave this juice on for about half an hour before washing off with your regular shampoo as you normally would. This will show you excellent results in as little as a day. But you are advised to do a patch test first, to determine if you have an allergy to garlic; if you have this allergy, then you should not be using this remedy.
