If you are suffering from jaundice, then it is advisable to be well informed about exactly what the problem is. Basically, jaundice is a condition that occurs when the liver is not functioning properly. The liver produces a fluid called bile, and it is bile which is instrumental in digesting certain types of foods.
Due to the malfunctioning of the liver, the production of bile usually suffers in terms of quantity. Due to low production of bile, your digestive process is also weakened so much that you cannot digest food easily or quickly. You should therefore make it a point to eat food which can be digested easily, without requiring excessive work on part of the liver.
This would practically exclude most things that are consumed in the regular daily diet of the average person. You should stay away from all kinds of processed food, which will automatically exclude anything that is precooked. Milk and honey are to be avoided as well. Bread is certainly off the list of things you are allowed to eat, if you mean regular white bread. You can have a minimal quantity of whole wheat flatbread, or any other kind of flatbread which is made of whole grain. It is advisable to avoid all regular bread that has been made with yeast.
Apart from this, for the duration of the disease, you should stick to eating plain boiled vegetables. Generally, when you are suffering from jaundice, you will barely be able to taste anything at all, no matter what you eat. However, if you find the taste of plain boiled vegetables not very appealing, you may add a very small quantity of salt, pepper or lime juice for taste. You should try and stick to squash, pumpkin, cucumber, and beans. It is generally inadvisable to eat potatoes or tomatoes, as both may cause or aggravate indigestion in jaundice patients. Another extremely useful thing when you have jaundice is sugar cane juice. Try and have as much of this as you can; sugar cane is supposed to have very strong healing properties and is considered to be extremely useful for the general health and functioning of the liver. If possible, try to get fresh sugar cane juice rather than canned or bottled juice. This will definitely help improve your liver function. It is also of utmost importance that you rest well in order to recover from jaundice.
