Toothache occurs when the tooth enamel is damaged, letting matter enter directly into the tooth pulp and resulting the inflammation of the tooth nerve. The crown on your son’s tooth could have damaged the enamel, causing an abscess and consequently leading to toothache. The most common symptoms of an abscessed tooth are excruciating pain, swollen gums, foul mouth odor, sometimes accompanied by high fever.
If your son is suffering from any or all of these then chances are he has an abscess. You should consult your dentist for proper medical advice.
However, in the meantime you can follow these simple measures for temporary relief:
- Dab the affected tooth with a little cotton wool soaked in olive oil.
- The extract of vanilla or almond applied to the tooth also relieves pain.
- A thin slice of onion applied to the affected reduces toothache. Eating raw onion daily also kills oral germs.
- Oregano or clove oil applied orally offer relief too.
- Put a little baking soda or golden seal powder in your son’s mouth.
- Washing the mouth with sesame seed oil for 10 minutes helps.
- Add a pinch of rock salt to a clove of garlic and apply this on the affected tooth every morning. Consuming a clove of raw garlic every day also lessens toothache.
- Lime is a rich source of Vitamin C, which keeps teeth healthy and strengthens the gums. The juice extracted from a lime should be consumed every morning.
- The juice of wheat grass detoxifies the mouth and serves as an effective natural mouthwash when used regularly.
- Crush a little asafetida in lime juice and heat the mixture for a minute. Soak a piece of cotton wool in this and apply it gently on the affected tooth for instant relief.
- Crush the bark of bay berry in vinegar and apply this paste on the affected tooth. This lessens toothache and strengthens the gums.
- Clove is a natural antiseptic. Chewing a raw clove or applying a little clove oil on the affected tooth eases pain.
- Mix a pinch common salt and a little pepper and or, alternatively, mix pepper powder in clove oil and apply this orally. This serves to relieve toothache and prevents foul breath and bleeding gums.
Besides these particular remedies, restrict your child’s intake of sugary foods and friend snacks and ensure that he washes his mouth well after every meal.
