If you are suffering from high blood pressure, then you should first of all understand the causes of the problem. Hypertension or high blood pressure, as it is commonly known, is basically a condition in which the blood pressure in the body is chronically higher than normal. In rare cases, there may be no apparent cause of hypertension, but usually, the causes are obvious – they may be obesity, excessive intake of salt, and insulin resistance.
Factors such as age and heredity also play a role, but these are of course mostly beyond our control. Sometimes, another health condition can lead to hypertension – this happens in the case of conditions such as kidney disorders and sleep apnea.
Whatever the cause may be, in order to treat the condition, it is necessary to target the cause, if of course the cause can be identified and is within our control.
There is no quick and simple way to lower blood pressure. It takes time, effort, and determination.
First of all, if you are overweight, you need to use weight. This does take work, but it is certainly achievable if you work with your body rather than against it. Weight loss itself takes time. Do not jump into any drastic, strict diet plans, as these will give you only short term effects, and will often harm your body, both in the short term and the long term. Instead, practice eating sensibly, and in moderation. Limit your intake of fats, ensure that the fats you do eat are healthy fats, eat less of simple carbohydrates such as fast food and sweets, eat more fruits and vegetables, and reduce your consumption of red meat. While on the topic of your diet, you should note that it is also necessary to reduce your intake of salt. This will of course be very difficult and unpleasant at first, but salt consumption is mostly a matter of habit, and within a month or two, you will not miss it. In addition, exercise is of course necessary – this could be a daily walk or swim, or it could be a sport, but you need to engage in some strenuous physical activity for at least 45 minutes a day.
Besides all these measures, you might also find it helpful to take up yoga, meditation, or some other form of relaxation, as stress contributes greatly to hypertension. Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption are also harmful, and should therefore be avoided.
