What causes stomach inflammation?

Stomach inflammation (or gastritis, as it is medically know) is a condition when the inner lining of the stomach is eroded. The inner wall of the stomach is protected with a mucus layer and erosion of this layer causes gastritis. There are many reasons for the intestine wall getting eroded. Infection of a particular bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, is mostly responsible for breaking down the mucus layer of the intestine. Prolonged use of nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and common painkillers, like aspirin and ibuprofen, can also make the inner linings of the stomach to break down. Alcohol abuse, smoking, stressful life, and certain underlying diseases can also be responsible for the erosion of mucus layer of the stomach.

Common symptoms of gastritis are acute pain in the stomach, nausea, indigestion, heartburn, and loss of appetite. One may also experience dark stools (occasionally blood-stained), weight loss, and rapid heartbeat.

To remedy gastritis, you can try some of the following home remedies. Drink cranberry juice; it is known to help fight against Helicobacter pylori. Green tea is also known to be useful for treating gastritis. Ginger is another useful remedy; it treats stomach ailments and also reduces inflammation. Along with these, it is also important to practice a healthy eating habit, exercise regularly, and manage stress. In your diet include plenty of green fiber-rich vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains, cereals, nuts, and sprouts. Vitamin B12 (sourced from fish, eggs, and meat) can also help fight Helicobacter pylori infection. If intake of vitamin B12 from dietary sources is not sufficient you can also take special medical supplements that are available at drug stores. Also, ensure that you drink water at regular intervals throughout the day. Avoid alcohol and smoking completely when you are suffering from gastritis. Dairy products, processed foods, carbonated drinks, oily and spicy foods should also be avoided. Following a healthy lifestyle can also be quite helpful to fight and prevent gastritis. A regular exercise routine can benefit immensely. It is equally important to relax the body and manage stress effectively. Most often stress of body and mind creates all kind of disorder in the body and leads to complications.
