If you experience an unusual rise in bowel movements or if you find that they have become runny, you are suffering from a common ailment called diarrhea. Accompanying ailments include aches, vomiting and possibly, a fever. The thing to keep in mind is that this is among the most frequent problems you will experience.
Age is not a factor when it comes to diarrhea and it affects an individual every year. In some cases a bout of diarrhea can occur twice during a week. This severe case is known as chronic diarrhea. One of the leading causes is food poisoning which affects so many people every day. Another common source of diarrhea is untreated water. You will be surprised to known that even medication you might be taking for other ailments can lead to this problem. Among other causes, irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease are the most common ones. Typically, home remedies should be sufficient to help you. However, it can be a critical condition in some cases such as when the patient is elderly.
With regards to diet, blueberries are often prescribed thanks to their antioxidant and antibacterial nature. Blueberry root as well as dried blueberries can help. Look for root vegetables. Examples of these include carrots, which are not too heavy to digest. Nutritional value of your foods is also important. Remember that your digestion system has taken a hit so you need lots of healthy foods and balanced nutrition. Bananas can be good in such cases. Hot teas are known for their soothing effects when it comes to diarrhea. Herbal teas such as chamomile can help your stomach. Similarly, peppermint might help you. Even simple tea without milk can facilitate recovery. Don’t forget that you are going to need all the water you can get. If you are vomiting simultaneously, remember that your body is rapidly dehydrating. It helps if you add a little sugar and salt or some readymade oral rehydration powder to your water. Many people suffering from this ailment have found relief in the form of starchy foods. This means foods such as potatoes or cooked cereals are helpful in overcoming this condition. Bear in mind that fried foods will only exacerbate your problem. While yogurt can be great in diarrhea cases, probiotic varieties should be consumed. It takes care of the harmful bacteria. Such beneficial yogurt is said to have live cultures. Don’t starve yourself to prevent trips to the bathroom. This can result in the added complication of acidity.

Diarrhea is a medical condition in which the patient is afflicted with frequent loose motions, which often leads to dehydration. This happens because the small intestine which receives approximately 10 l of liquid through the diet and secretions of organs such as the stomach, liver, pancreas and intestines, either does not absorb adequate liquids or it gets excreted in excess amounts towards the colon which can not hold much water. This leads to the passing of frequent and loose motions. Diarrhea is usually caused by the consumption wrong foods, indigestion and excessive consumption of certain medications or laxatives. It can also be caused by bacteria, virus or germs that have entered the system through food, water or air. Milk, eggs and sea-food are often carriers of such bacteria and thus it is very important to check the source of these products and to cook them properly in hygienic conditions before consuming them. It is important to control and treat diarrhea before it leads to severe dehydration.
Fortunately diarrhea can be treated at home using simple home remedies. The most effective remedy for diarrhea is drinking buttermilk seasoned with a pinch of salt and come coriander powder 3 to 4 times a day. The acid in the buttermilk helps to fight the bacteria in the intestines which are causing the diarrhea. Fenugreek seeds can be fried and added to the buttermilk to help combat the feeling of biliousness. Carrot soup is also beneficial for treating diarrhea since it not only provides water to replace the water that has been excreted, it also provides sodium, calcium, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium to the system and also coats the intestine, preventing inflammation due to inadequate liquid supply. Since it fights the bacteria in the intestines it also prevents vomiting which sometimes accompanies the loose motions. 1 tsp of fresh mint juice mixed with 1 tsp of lemon and 1 tsp of honey consumed thrice daily is excellent for treating diarrhea. 1 tsp of dried and powdered mango seeds can also be consumed twice a day with some honey to effectively treat diarrhea. 2 tsp of poppy seeds mixed with a little water and 1 cup of curd should be consumed every 6 hours till the loose motions stop. Bottle gourd juice and even pomegranate juice consumed once a day is very good for controlling the loose motions. Finally it is important to keep drinking water with some glucose or even coconut water to prevent the body from dehydrating and replenish the energy being lost due to frequent loose motions.
