Although lack of sleep is usually the reason to explain puffiness around the eyes, there can be a variety of other reasons for this. Puffiness of the eyes could be caused by a bad diet, a bad lifestyle and could also be related to stress levels in your life. Sometimes puffy eyes are heredity so if your family has a tendency to have puffiness around the eyes, you are likely to have the same problem.

Side effects of some medication that you are taking, the build up of toxins in your body, allergic reactions are other possible reasons to explain the puffiness around your eyes. If you are prone to sinusitis you may find that you frequently wake up with puffy eyes. You can try to combat this by sleeping with your head elevated at a slight elevation.

This will allow the sinus cavities to drain and prevent puffiness of your eyes.

You can combat the puffiness of eyes by eating a well balanced and healthy diet. Your daily regime should include the consumption of plenty of water or juices. You will find that limiting your intake of caffeine will help reduce the puffiness around your eyes. You will also find that rationing the use of salt in your diet helps reduce the puffiness since sodium causes the body to retain water which in turn causes the skin to look puffy. You can also stay healthy by eating food that is low in fat, oil and spices. You should also eat fewer items that contain white flour, sugar and cheese. Instead you can eat healthy food that consists of fresh vegetables, plenty of soups and juices.

Home remedies for puffy eyes such as cucumber slices, when placed on your closed eyes can help in drastically reducing the puffiness of eyes. You can also grind the cucumber pieces and soak pieces of clean cotton in the cucumber juice. This can be laid on closed eyes and provide your eyes with relief. This will also help reduce the puffiness. Slices of raw potato, when placed on your closed eyes, will also work similarly and help reduce the puffiness. You can also mix some lavender in a floral water mixture and apply it gently on your eyes with a clean piece of cotton. You can also steep a chamomile tea bag and then use the used tea bag on your eyes. However, none of these remedies will have any effect if your daily routine is not altered. You need to ensure that you get sufficient sleep every night. You should avoid keeping late hours and ensure that you sleep for at least eight hours. Try to avoid stress by taking a relaxing bath or listening to some soothing music. Sleep in a room that is well ventilated and where you can be sure of getting a good nights rest.
