The first thing you need to do for your problem is consult a doctor and figure out if you actually have a problem that needs addressing at all. Sometimes, while recovering from a cold, it is possible that you may get the feeling that there are remnants of mucus in the back of the throat. If you are recovering from a especially long illness, then this will be even more pronounced and may even last more than a week or two.
A lot of times, this problem can actually be psychological, rather than a physical one. Once you have had a medical examination, you will be in a better position to deal with the problem. If you do get diagnosed as having a physical problem, then there are some measures you can take to try and prevent this feeling.
The first thing to do would be to gargle with a large glass of hot water to which a tablespoon of salt has been added. Do thing first thing in the morning after you wake up and last thing before you go to bed. In between, you can do it as many times as you like as well. This will only make you feel better.
You can also take special tea that is brewed with spices to make the mucus go away. Steep a pot of tea to which you have added roughly ground spices. These would include a few peppercorns, cloves, cardamoms, a half inch stick of cinnamon and a half inch piece of ginger. You can sip from this tea all day. Since sugar will not do you any good, you can use honey for a sweetener in this tea. You can also make a concoction of pure honey and ginger juice in equal quantities and keep licking this all day. This will also help to push down any remnants of mucus. Pure garlic juice will also help to remove mucus from your throat. But this has a generally unpalatable taste, and is therefore not such a good idea. You could add honey to it and have, though. This might help with making the taste more bearable. In any case, you would have to employ these remedies for a few days before you can see positive results. If nothing works for you after a couple of weeks, go back to another doctor for a second opinion. There could be something the first doctor could not isolate.
