The first thing you should be doing if you suffer from dry eyes is check why this is the case. Sometimes, people have a natural tendency to have dry eyes, and this does not really cause any serious problems per se. However, in most cases of people suffering from dry eyes, the reason behind the problem lies in their habits or lifestyle.

For instance, most of the time, people who have jobs where they gave to stare too much at a screen. This could be a computer or a film screen. But if you have the tendency to stare constantly, and without blinking, then you will find that the dry eyes problem keeps getting worse and worse.

The first thing you should do if you fall in this category is to make it a point to look away from the screen where you are working every 15 minutes. For a single minute, you can close your eyes and relax. This will make a very significant difference in your problem to begin with. The next thing you must do is each hour, take a slightly longer break. In the beginning, you may have to actually set alarms to remind yourself. But after some time, this will become a habit which you will start following unconsciously.

If you are constantly in an air conditioned environment, then you should know that simply doing what is suggested above may just not be enough. You may also have to take a few more steps. Keep using rose water to wash out your eyes every hour or so. This will not only rest and moisten your eyes, it will also help to cool and soothe them. You can also buy bottled fake tears from the pharmacy to help with this. Constantly adding moisture to your eyes will also help from keeping them too dry. Another thing you can do for extreme dryness is to make a solution of one part honey and 10 parts water. Keep this chilled and put a couple or so drops of it into your eyes every night before bedtime. Remember that this will burn a lot and will also make your eyes stream with water. This is the aim of the exercise. Once the water starts flowing, you will find that the problem of dry eyes is taken care of automatically. Do not worry about the burning, though. This is a completely natural and normal reaction.
