There are several easy to use home remedies you can use to get rid of head lice. But before you get around to trying any of them, you should first try and quarantine the person who has head lice. This will not let the lice spread.

By quarantine, it means that you should not allow the person who has head lice to sleep in the same bed as anyone else. Head lice travel quite easily and quickly through pillows and bed linens. This is a very important step, because head lice can spread as quickly as a day.

And once they have managed to infest the whole house, you will have a very tough time getting rid of them. It is far easier to rid one person of head lice than it is to try and get an entire household free of these pests, particularly if there are small children in the house. One of the first and most basic steps you can use is to add a few drops of tea tree oil to the shampoo you use on a regular basis. Not only will this remove the necessity of using any strong shampoos that claim to remove lice altogether, it will also allow your head to heal from the lice bites after they are gone. This is because tea tree oil has natural healing and anti septic properties that can help with this particular problem. But you must remember to be very careful if you use this remedy on small children. Make sure they keep their eyes tightly shut to protect them from the damaging effects that tea tree oil could have on their delicate and sensitive eyes. And remember that you cannot use this remedy for children under the age of two years at all.

Another highly popular remedy for getting rid of lice is also using simple and plain mayonnaise on the scalp. All you would have to do is apply it on the scalp and leave it be for a good half an hour. This will effectively get rid of lice very quickly. Another remedy that can be sued for the purpose of getting rid of lice is to apply kerosene to your scalp. But you need to remember that this remedial measure will cause a burning sensation. So do not be alarmed. You have to be careful that it does not get into the eyes. These methods should show results in a couple of usages.
