The first thing to know is that there are no magical and quick ways to cut back on cholesterol. You will have to make some serious and major changes in the way you live and eat if you wish to cut back on cholesterol. Keep in mind that high cholesterol can be a hereditary problem, but nearly over 50 per cent of the problem lies with you alone.
To begin with, you will have to start exercising. This will make the biggest difference. Exercise is the best and surest way to cut down on high cholesterol.
Make it a rule to exercise at least thrice a week, and more if you can manage it. This will help you and you will see noticeable results in as little as a month after doing this. If you are not allowed strenuous exercise, then you can start with a routine of daily Yoga. This is actually an excellent method to improve your general health as well as cut back on cholesterol. If you cannot find a qualified Yoga instructor and are afraid of getting it wrong, then you can also go for a brisk walk every day. But make sure you walk non stop for at least 30 minutes at a stretch.
The next thing you will have to check drastically is your diet. Your best bet is to remove all red meat and oil from your diet at once. You will be surprised at the amount of difference it makes to your general health as well. For at least a month, make sure you do not even touch red meat. Stick to chicken and grill it when you eat it. No fried stuff, not even once - and make this a rule if you value your health. Add lots of green leafy vegetables to your diet. This will help to cut back on cholesterol drastically. In particular, collard and kale greens are very useful with this process. You should also make it a rule to start each meal with a deep and big bowl of soup or salad. This will automatically check your diet and ensure that you eat correctly. And remember to skip the dressing if you are eating salad. Dressing invariably always has oil in it, and you cannot add anything oily to your diet. This will also help to cut back on your cholesterol a great deal. A month of this kind of strict dieting should show positive results.
