Harsh soaps and detergents should be avoided as they can contain many harmful chemicals and irritants. Avoid scratching the skin too much as it may lead to sores and result in infection. Instead, press the area with cool and wet towel whenever you feel the urge to scratch. Keep an eye on personal hygiene and general cleanliness. Clean the house regularly and do not let dust accumulate. Use clothes and towels that are washed regularly. Avoid spicy and oily foods as they might deteriorate the condition of eczema. Caffeinated drinks and dairy products are also known to trigger eczema; therefore, avoid them as well. Omega-3 fatty acids may be able to help fight eczema to certain extent. Therefore, eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acid (like fish, eggs, flax) can be useful. Since you have mentioned dry skin, you may also want to use a humidifier at home to keep the air flow supplied with moisture.
You can also prepare and try some home-made remedies. Make a paste of sandalwood and camphor and apply them over the infected area. Pulp of ripe mango can also be applied on the eczema-affected part of the skin. Prepare fresh juices from vegetables (for example, carrot) or fruits (for example, strawberry) and apply them on the affected skin area. You can also prepare a paste by boiling turmeric powder in water and apply on your skin. Margosa leaves, if available, can also be added to this.
