Leukoderma causes white patches on the skin and is also known as vitiligo and is mainly caused due to some internal problem in the body. It occurs when there is a deficiency of the pigment melanin in our body that results in white spots or patches. This disease is not infectious or life threatening and can be cured.

It starts of as light spots or patches that are dull in the initial stage but later develop into white patches and if left untreated it might cover the entire body. It is caused when the immune system mistakes the melanin pigment cells for foreign bodies and destroys them or when the pigment generating cells are destroyed by certain chemical agents or in some cases chemical exposure destroys the melanin cells resulting in white patches. Some of the other common causes of these white patches are presence of parasites in the elementary canal, excessive mental worry, hereditary factors, chronic gastric disorders, burn injuries, defective perspiratory mechanism, and so on.

Using homoeopathy medicines can cure leukoderma. You may also try the following home remedies for treating white patches:

Steep the seeds of psoralea in a little ginger juice for three days. The ginger juice should be changed daily. Then rub the seeds with your hands to remove the husks and dry them in the shade and powder it. Take a gram of this powder daily with a cup of milk for forty days. You can also use these seeds to apply on the white patches. Steep the psoralea seeds with equal quantity of tamarind seeds in water for 3 to 4 days. Then shell them and dry in the shade. Powder it and make a paste with water and apply it on the white patches. People with sensitive skin might experience itching or redness of the skin so if this happens to you discontinue use immediately.

You can also use the paste of radish seeds to treat the white patches. Take about thirty five grams of radish seeds and powder it with two teaspoons of vinegar. Mix into a smooth paste and apply this on the affected area. Let dry for sometime and then wash off as usual.

Mustard oil and turmeric treatment has also proved beneficial in treating leukoderma. Soak 500 grams of freshly powdered turmeric root in eight liters of water overnight. Next morning boil this mixture till the quantity is reduced to one liter. Then strain it and mix with 500 ml of pure mustard oil and heat till all the water evaporates and only the oil remains. Strain this oil and store it in a clean glass bottle. Apply this oil on the white patches every morning and evening to restore the original color of your skin.
