It is not your eyes that are causing your body to feel tired, it is the overall strain you are putting on both your eyes and your body. Your eyes are probably the first to feel tired, which is why it seems to result in the subsequent tiredness of the body that you feel. The best thing you can do is to avoid placing such continuous strain on your eyes and your body.

Most probably, you spend a lot of time sitting at a computer for your work. This obviously places a strain on your eyes, and while it may seem to you that simply sitting at a computer is not tiring for your body, the fact is that it is. The posture in which you typically sit at a computer is not a fully relaxed posture.

The shoulders, arms, and neck tend to be rather tense in this position, and even the back tends to get strained by long hours at the computer. In order to counter this, you need to first of all ensure that your posture is proper, so that the strain on your body (and on your eyes) is minimized. Secondly, you should take frequent breaks - this is the only way to relieve your eyes and your body.

Your posture should be upright without being stiff - sit with your back straight, your elbows close to your sides, and your forearms roughly parallel to the floor. The height of your chair should be such that your feet are flat on the ground and your eyes are at the same level as the top of your screen. You should not need to look up or down to view your monitor when you sit. You should also be at least a foot away from your monitor; the ideal distance is around one and a half foot. Closer or farther away will place a strain on your eyes.

You should take a break at least once every hour - this need not be a long break, even two minutes will do, as long as you get up from your seat and walk around a bit. To give your eyes a break, you should close them for around ten seconds and cup your hands over them gently. You should also focus your eyes on distant objects, as a change from staring at the monitor. If you do not work at a computer, you should try to incorporate similar guidelines into whatever you do, so as to minimize strain and relieve yourself at regular intervals.
