Cures for Diarrhea

Is there a way to find out if your diarrhea is caused by a parasite? If garlic works to get rid of them, how do you take it?

The only way to find out if your diarrhea is caused by parasite is to go to the doctor and get your stools checked. Diarrhea is also commonly known as loose motions. Normally the small intestine gets more than ten liters of fluids per day, which comes from what we eat and drink and from the secretions of the pancreas, stomach, intestines and liver.

When this liquid is in excess or not absorbed properly it is sent to the colon. The colons capacity of holding water is not much and hence the need to defecate frequently arises.

It can be caused due to several reasons like eating the wrong kind of foods that do not suit one's body, when there is incomplete carbohydrate digestion that causes fermentation, use of certain laxatives or antibiotic medicines. It might also be caused due to certain infections caused by bacteria, germs, parasites, virus, etc. or poisoning caused by food or impure water. At times it could be due to allergic reaction to certain foods like eggs, milk, seafood or wheat, etc. Some home remedies to cure diarrhea are as mentioned below.

Carrot soup is known to be very effective for diarrhea as it provides water to prevent dehydration, replenishes the body with potassium, phosphorus, sodium, calcium, magnesium and sulfur, it also controls the growth of harmful bacteria in the gut, coats the intestine and prevents vomiting.

Buttermilk is also considered very effective to treat diarrhea as the acid in buttermilk fights the bacteria and germs in the intestine. You can get buttermilk by churning the curd and removing the fat from it. The remaining liquid is buttermilk, which you can have with a pinch of salt 3 to 4 times a day.

Garlic has many health benefits as it has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. The amino acid derivative called allicin in garlic is responsible for its therapeutic powers and pungent smell. It can be eaten both cooked and raw to get its benefits. Sometimes garlic is used with sugar water to treat diarrhea. But taking garlic on an empty stomach might actually cause diarrhea in some cases. Garlic can be used to treat mild cases of diarrhea. You can either take one capsule thrice a day or swallow one garlic pod whole three times a day. People who are allergic to garlic must not take it. For severe cases of diarrhea it is best to get medical treatment as it might lead to severe dehydration of the body.
