Dry hair is an indication that your hair does not have enough moisture and oil content. There can be multiple reasons for dry hair - both external and internal. External causes include dry environment, harsh detergents or chemicals, too much washing, excessive blow-drying, chlorinated water, and over-exposure to the sun's rays.
Internal causes include malnutrition, prolonged illness, and certain medications. While the external causes of dry hair can be easy to remedy, the internal causes may need much more specialized treatment.
The first step towards treating dry hair is to oil your hair regularly.
You have mentioned oiling your hair before wash. Just try to keep your hair oiled for a longer time, preferably overnight. Use coconut oil, olive oil, or almond oil and massage it on your scalp before going to sleep and leave it overnight so that the hair gets much time to absorb the oil. You have also mentioned using henna, which is a good conditioner. You can try another henna treatment by mixing 4 tablespoons of henna, two whole eggs, 3 teaspoons of coconut milk, 2 teaspoons of olive oil, and a little bit of water, if required. Make a paste and apply on your scalp for about 2-3 hours before washing off with water. Vinegar is another good conditioner and can give shine to your hair. There are many ways to apply vinegar on your hair. You can just add a tablespoon of vinegar to the water while rinsing your hair. Else, you can also apply vinegar after shampooing your hair. Mix 2 cups of water and ½ cup of vinegar and apply it on your hair. Keep the vinegar mixture applied on your hair for about an hour and then wash off with water. Rinsing your hair with beer is another good way to restore shine in your hair. Pour beer on your hair after shampooing and wash it off after about 10 minutes. You can also consider giving your hair a mayonnaise treatment. Apply a tablespoonful or so of mayonnaise on your hair and rub properly to your scalp. Keep the mayonnaise-applied hair covered with a cap for about half an hour before washing off thoroughly with water.
There are also a few precautions you will need to take to better manage your dry hair. Do not overdo shampoo as it may make your hair dry. Also, do not use blow dryers to dry up wet hair as artificial heat may lead to dry hair conditions. It is better to let your hair dry naturally if you already suffer from dry hair condition.
