Do you suffer from chronic gas and indigestion? If so then you need to watch what you eat. Acidity, gas and heartburn are common symptoms caused due to indigestion.
There are several reasons for it like not chewing your food properly or if you are eating foods that cause gas. Foods, which have high fiber content, like cabbage, beans, leafy vegetables, fruits and dairy products create a lot of gas while digestion. You can avoid it easily by changing your diet in the following way:
Use dried beans instead of the canned ones.
Soak overnight in warm water. In the morning discard this water and use fresh water for cooking. Cook them fully until soft.
For protein use soy products instead of dairy products and beans as they are easy to digest. You can use soy milk and or tofu in your cooking.
Use ginger and garlic liberally in your cooking as both these have excellent digestive properties and control gas in the body. Use it in your daily cooking.
Hot soups with ginger and garlic effectively help to get rid of gas in the body.
Drink warm chamomile tea. Boil one large mug of water and add 3 teaspoons of dried chamomile flowers and 1 teaspoon of dried mint leaves to it. Do not boil after adding the herbs. Let steep for 15 minutes. Strain this herbal tea, add honey to taste and sip slowly. Have this warm tea to effectively relieve gas and indigestion.
Soak a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Swallow the soaked seeds with warm water before going to bed at night. This will help in good digestion and will also effectively get rid of the gas in your body.
Practice proper eating habits. Do not eat or drink in a hurry and gulp your food. This causes indigestion and gas. Chewing your food well will allow the saliva to mix with the food and help to break down the complex carbohydrates before it reaches your stomach. This will help in easy digestion of your food.
Keep your mouth closed while chewing as eating with your mouth open leads to swallowing of excess air that causes gas in your chest.
Having aerated and carbonated soft drinks, drinking through a straw, chewing gum causes gas as this puts extra air in our system.
Exercise regularly as this will give enough movement to your internal organs, which in turn will help to get rid of the gas in your body.
