Eczema also called dermatitis is a condition where skin gets easily irritated. This could be because of allergic reactions to certain foods, irritation caused by harsh soaps or chemicals, infection, stress and many other reasons. If you have a family history of allergies or eczema then you would have it too.

It could also be because of improper blood circulation. Eczema makes the skin dry, red, inflamed and causes severe itch. Try and find out the cause of your problem so you can control the problem by avoiding the causes in future.

You can do this by staying away from things or substances that you are allergic to. Eat healthy; do not go on a crash diet. Check if you have an allergy to foods like fish, nuts, eggs, soy, etc. Drink clean filtered water, at least eight glasses in a day. Stay away from dust and smoke. Try an air filter or purifier at home. Use mild fragrance free soaps and detergents as the harsh chemicals will strip the natural oils from your skin further drying it. Use a good quality moisturizing or cream body wash. This will help to maintain the moisture levels in your skin. Use soap free products and avoid the use of strong perfumed deodorants and powders on your skin as these have a drying effect on the skin and may cause irritation. Do not use body scrubs, loofahs, washcloths or sponge on the affected area at all. These might bruise or peel off the skin making it worse. Do not rub your skin instead pat dry with a soft towel.

Sweaty, unclean, rough or tight clothing could also cause eczema. Have a bath immediately if you swim as the high chlorine content could also trigger an allergic reaction. Please ensure good personal hygiene.

Emollients help to reduce the loss of water from the skin and hence reduce skin dryness. Use a mild fragrance free moisturizer. You may try pure petroleum jelly to restore hydration to the dry cracked skin. Well hydrated and moisturized skin will heal quickly and provide relief from symptoms.

Do not scratch the affected part as in your case the bleeding is because of that. And broken skin would lead to further infection and make the problem worse. Please visit a good dermatologist immediately as proper treatment will provide relief soon. Your doctor might prescribe a topical lotion or oral medication depending on the severity of your infection.
