An upset stomach is quite a common complaint, but is an extremely vague phrase that is often used to describe a wide range of problems, from slight abdominal discomfort due as a result of overeating or consuming too much of the wrong food to a stomach infection that causes severe diarrhea. Since you have not provided any details, it is not clear exactly how severe your upset stomach is and what the symptoms are.

In general however, whenever you have any kind of stomach upset, it is a good idea to go easy on your digestive system for the next few days.

Avoid foods that contain a lot of spices, as these will aggravate and irritate the lining of your digestive system, which is already stressed. Fatty foods should also be avoided, as they place a further strain on the digestive system. You should of course avoid eating out as far as possible, and avoid eating any kind of processed food.

Simple, home made foods should be consumed as far as possible - plain, boiled rice is what is often suggested, and it works too. Yogurt is also recommended, and can be eaten with the rice, but this does not agree with all people. The safest bet is probably fruits, particularly bananas, pomegranates, pears, and apples. Fruits are very light on your digestive system, but at the same time are able to provide all the necessary nutrients. Each meal of the day should ideally consist of at least two portions of fruit.

If you also have diarrhea, it is important to make up for the loss of fluids. The more severe the diarrhea, the more important it is to keep your body hydrated. Drinking water is of course necessary, but here too fruits come in handy - you should drink fruit juices several times a day. For very severe diarrhea, you may need to take a saline solution, as the body loses lots of water and salts. You can prepare this solution by simply adding a teaspoon of sugar and a little salt to a glass of water.

These measures should help you get through the stomach upset while your body heals itself over the next few days. If the symptoms persist for more than five days, you should of course visit your doctor, as home care may not be enough. You may need to take some medication to fight the stomach infection.
