The markets all over the word are flooded with magical colon cleansing products that promise astonishing things. However, any doctor you would visit and ask about the procedure of colon cleansing would first question why you want to do it. If you have not experienced this already, you should probably try to ask your general family physician these questions.
The reason why doctors are leery of speaking about issue is that despite all the hype and hoopla that surrounds colon cleansing as a way of preventing colon cancer, this is just not true. If anything, colon cleansers will help to make matters worse. There are some terrible side effects of cleansing the colon that could affect you.
One is rupturing of the colon wall, which will all but destroy your digestive system for good. Sometimes, when water is forced into your intestines, it may be done with more force than is necessary. This can actually harm you permanently by rupturing the wall of the colon. It could also damage the colon and interfere with its functionality. The job of the colon is to keep your system well regulated and maintain a balance of essentials by cleansing your body. It does so by eliminating body waste. Do not put any stock in the theory that deposits build up on the colon over the years. This is simply not true. The colon is so small and occupies so little space in the body that it can hardly store anything on itself. Whether good or bad, deposits will always fall off the colon.
The other misconception is that cleansing your colon will make you lose weight and keep you trimmer. Keep in mind that if you constantly keep flushing food out of your body, this is bound to happen. While you may lose weight, remember that this is possibly the unhealthiest way you can go about losing the weight. In any case, this is not the aim of colon cleansing. If your body becomes used to an invasive procedure like colon cleansing, it will also lose its natural ability to dispose of waste deposits naturally. If a colon cleansing has been recommended by a doctor, then your best bet is to get it done in a professional environment. In all likelihood, the doctor will suggest the time, place and method for this procedure. In short, you are just better off leaving this task to the professionals and not trying it at home.
