Gout is a medical condition that basically affects the various joints in our body. It causes the joints to swell and leads to an excruciating pain that can completely immobilize the sufferer for days, even weeks. Gout is caused by the formation of uric acid crystal in our body.

This is caused when the body produces too much uric acid or, in other causes, the amount of uric acid produced is not passed out of the body and accumulates. Sometimes people whose families suffer from gout suffer from this due to heredity. In other cases a bad lifestyle and the lack of adequate exercise or drinking too much alcohol can also cause gout.

If you drink, then you should first reduce and even completely stop drinking alcohol. In addition you should a diet that is rich in proteins. Cherries are considered very beneficial for people suffering from gout. You can eat around twenty fresh cherries every single day. If you are unable to find fresh cherries, you can eat canned cherries too. The juices of the vegetables beetroot, carrots and cucumber - when taken in combination- can be very effective in reducing the pain of gout. You should extract 100 ml of juice from cucumbers, 100 ml from beetroot and mix these juices with 300 ml of carrot juice. The juice of fresh string beans can be taken daily as a very effective treatment for gout. Apples contain an acid which is believed to neutralize the effect of the uric acid that accumulates in the body of people suffering from gout. For this reason, it is advisable that you eat at least one apple every day.

Bananas are also used in treating gout. It is believed that eating over half a dozen bananas for three days is an effective way to treat gout. Lime juice, which contains Vitamin C, is also effective in treating gout. The citric acid in lime is a solvent of the uric acid, which is the primary cause of gout. For this reason drinking a glass of water with the juice of a lime squeezed into it every day can be a very effective way to get relief from gout.

You should avoid all food items that contain purine and uric acid like fish and meat. In addition to this you should stay away from beverages like tea and coffee. You should also avoid eating food items which contain white flour and sweets.
