The term eczema refers to an inflammatory skin condition, which results in the appearance of pustules, redness, flaking, thickening, scaling, crusting and itching that can be quite annoying and discomforting. It is the most common chronic skin disorder and is a largely constitutional disease, caused by impurities or a toxic state of the system. The condition is also known as atopic dermatitis.
Eczema eruptions generally surface on the hands, arms, wrists, face, neck, upper chest and on the back of the knees. Eczema is not contagious. Eczema can also be caused as an allergic reaction triggered by different materials and chemicals, like latex, rubber, gold, silver, perfumes, poison ivy, soap, cosmetics etc. or a reaction to certain foods.
