Schizophrenia is an illness that results in some kinds of mental disorder. This is a disease that affects the mind of the patient. This disease results in some abnormalities in the way they perceive reality and the world around them.
There are several easily observable signs of Schizophrenia. Warning signs of Schizophrenia are that the patient suffers from paranoia. In addition to this the patient gives evidence of being delusional.
His speech patterns give evidence of being disorganized. Very often the actions of a patient suffering from Schizophrenia give evidence of disturbed thinking processes. Doctors have to use a two pronged approach when they try to diagnose this medical condition is patients. Doctors seek reports of the patient's behavior. In addition to this they question the patient himself and ask him to give his own report of the various activities that he carries out. On the basis of these two reports the doctors base their diagnosis and are able to identify a patient of Schizophrenia.
As you can see, Schizophrenia is not an illness that anybody can actually treat by themselves. That is, it is not a disease that can be treated with home remedies. It requires medical professionals to first recognize and diagnose it before designing a course of treatment.
However, this does not mean that you cannot help someone close to you, who might be suffering from this mental disorder. What you can do for yourself and for the people around you, is to keep eyes open for some symptoms and ensure that certain safety steps are followed.
If someone around you is suffering from Schizophrenia, then you should ensure that he takes his medications regularly. There might be periods of time when the patient actually feel well and believes that he doesn't require medicines. But you should help the patient overcome any temptation to stop the medication since stopping the medicines is likely to trigger off a renewal of the symptoms.
You should also be aware of all the symptoms that give warning of an attack or even a relapse. This means that you will have to be constantly on alert and react to any small indication that the patient is likely to suffer another attack. Drugs and alcohol are things that will only worsen the condition of the schizophrenic and so you should ensure that he is kept away from both these. In addition to worsening the medical condition of the patient, both drugs and alcohol also interfere with the medicines and reduce their effectiveness.
