Toenail fungus is easy enough to get rid of, depending upon the stage it has reached. Sometimes, it results in total blackness and discoloration of the nail. When it reaches this stage, usually, you would have to resort to really strict measures.
But if you have just about begun to get affected with the problem, then you can take some simple measures at home to take care of the situation. One of the most effective remedies to employ for toenail fungus is to put tea tree oil on it. You should specially apply this oil beneath your nails so that it manages to seep into the skin between your nails and toe and can begin working on it.
It is better that you dilute it with an equal amount of olive oil and then apply it. This is because tea tree oil is an extremely strong product. While it will kill any fungus and bacteria that are residing in your toenails, it may also damage your skin in the process. You should apply a layer of it to your toenail, preferably at night and leave it on. In order to ensure that it stay son, wear socks. You must also make it a point to wash your nails in a solution of equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water. All you would have to do is to soak your feet in this solution for a while and wash it off with regular soap and water. This will ensure that your feet are clean and sanitized before you begin anything else.
Another remedy you can use to cure toenail fungus is vinegar. You can actually rub vinegar to your toenail with a wad of cotton soaked in it. This will help to get rid of the fungus very effectively. If you use organic vinegar, it will work better. You can also use highly mentholated substances to kill the fungus. For instance, you can rub Vicks on your toenails. This will help to literally "choke" the fungus to death. You can also use substances like toothpaste and mouthwash. These have strong properties that kill germs and bacteria and will work very well when applied and left on in concentrated quantities on a fungal infection. You can use any mouthwash that is particularly strong. If your toes are badly discolored, you can also bleach them with diluted bleach. But do not use this too frequently, as it may damage your skin.
