The symptoms that you've mentioned are characteristic of a disease called, 'scabies'. It is a skin disease which is also known as the 'itch'. It is caused by a small mite who makes burrows in the skin where it lays its eggs.

It causes an irritation on the skin which is known as 'Scabies' rash. Since it is active when the skin is warm or moist, it is very often, at its worst in bed at night. The hands, particularly the webs of the fingers and the wrists are the parts which are most often affected.

This condition is highly contagious, which can pass very easily from one person to another, just like louse infestation. Overcrowding and lack of cleanliness and personal hygiene is known to contribute to its spread. You should be very careful and must rinse all clothing and bed-clothes of all family members in boiling water everyday. If you have pets, they must be disinfected and given regular hot-water baths.

You must bathe in hot-water twice a day. The affected areas must be always kept clean. These precautions must be taken by all members of the family as this disease is highly contagious. The patient must take complete bed rest and should avoid contact with others during till he has recovered completely. The course of medicines as prescribed by the doctor must be completed, or else a recurrence of this infection can't be ruled out.

You should waste no time and must show a doctor immediately. You can also try applying the juice of neem leaves on the affected portions of the skin. Similarly, sesame oil is also known to give excellent results, when applied over the rash. A pinch or turmeric powder mixed with mustard oil is also known to work well. All said and done, I'd like to re-iterate that the first remedy that you and your family members should resort to is personal hygiene.
