Effective Treatments For Water on The Knee

If I have water on the knee and have pain, what can I do to alleviate the pain?

'Water on the Knee' is a common term which is used in lay parlance to describe the accumulation of fluid in and around the knee joint. It more often than not, results into swelling of the affected area. Then knee joint is made up of three bones, the Femur (thigh bone),Patella (knee cap) and Fibia (Shin bone).


At the ends of these bones and between them is cartilage tissue. This cartilage is extremely important as it enables the smooth gliding of these bones as well as the proper distribution of our body weight. The knee joint is one of the most important joins of the body as it supports are body weight and without which no locomotion is possible.

The causes of this ailment are varied. It can range from an infection to obesity. The swelling must be shown to a doctor immediately, as the causes are many. More often than not, Rheumatoid arthritis is found to be responsible for the condition. Knee Arthritis whose common form is osteo arthritis can be explained in simple terms as the wearing away or tearing of the cartilage tissue at the end of the bones or between the bones in the knee joint. It is normally seen to occur with aging, but can also be caused by obesity, as excessive pressure on the cartilage leads to its wearing away.

You my also try a few home remedies which are known to enhance and speed up the recovery process. Lime juice mixed with coconut oil should be applied on the affected portions after they have been washed with warm water and have been dried by a towel. Garden soil without stones, soaked in little water should be moderately heated and must be wrapped in a cloth and used as a poultice. It should be left on the affected area for a couple of hours. Application of sesame oil on the affected area is also known to have a similar effect. One should also include a lot of citrus fruits like oranges and sweet limes in their diet. Also, the new joint shouldn't be subjected to excessive strain and you should restrain from any heavy physical activity till complete recovery.
