Home remedy for dry damaged hair

How do I take care of my dry damaged hair?
(17 Oct 2008)

Healthy hair is a sign of a healthy body, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Everybody desires healthy, shiny hair but for that you need to take good care of your hair by protecting it from pollution, harmful chemicals in hair care products and hair colors, as well as the sun and wind to which it is exposed daily. Dry hair, apart from looking lifeless, is often very brittle and prone to split-ends and a frizzy unkempt look.

If you have dry hair, you can follow some of these simple home remedies to improve the quality and texture of your hair. The kitchen is often a rich source of products to obtain lustrous healthy hair. You can use curd as a conditioner - gently massage some curd into your hair and leave it for 5 minutes before washing it off. Similarly you can wash your hair using an egg that has been whipped to froth. Apply it to your scalp and massage gently to work up froth before rinsing it off. Repeat the process till you finish the egg. Mayonnaise applied to the hair 15 minutes before you bathe helps to restore the natural bounce and shine. Cover your hair with a plastic bag after you apply the mayonnaise so it does not dry too much. Rinse it off properly before you shampoo like always. Another excellent kitchen remedy for your hair - mash an over-ripe banana and avocado and apply this mixture into your hair, rinsing it after 15 minutes. You can add a bottle of left-over flat beer to a bucket-full of water and use it as a last rinse to obtain soft, shiny hair. Apart from this, the pulp of Aloe Vera applied to the scalp and left for an hour, as well as regular massage with coconut oil will help to improve the general health of your hair.

In addition to all this, avoid using harsh chemical products on your hair, protect your hair from the sun and wind by wearing a hat when you step outside and regularly trim your hair to get rid of split-ends. Always wear a head-cap when you go swimming, since the chlorine in the swimming pool water adversely affects the hair. Condition your hair regularly, wrapping a towel dipped in hot water around your scalp after applying the conditioner to open the pores and allow the conditioner to enter. Avoid shampooing and using a blow-dryer too often since this dries your hair, leaving them brittle. Last but not the least; maintain a healthy lifestyle, with a balanced diet and a relatively stress free routine and drink plenty of water and fresh fruit juices to keep your body and hair well hydrated.
