Heartburn is extremely common during pregnancy. The medical and physical cause for this is that your uterus has expanded so much that it has actually pushed all your other organs, literally, out of the way to make space for the child. Because of this, the stomach reduces to a very small size and will have a tendency to push its contents back to where they came from.

This is particularly true if you are eating too much at any one given time. The trick to take care of heartburn during pregnancy is to try and eat small, frequent meals. You can also eat every other hour if you feel hungry.

Large meals will only add to your discomfort. The other thing is that you must also avoid eating spicy food. Spicy food always causes acidity, even when you are not pregnant. During pregnancy, it will only aggravate your situation. Eating oily and fried food will also add to your acidity and heartburn. You would do well to avoid eating that kind of food as well. Keep in mind that a certain amount of heartburn and acidity is common in the first trimester. This is also a result of your body reacting to the changes that the baby’s presence has brought about. If you give it some time, this will tide over quite easily and quickly. Typically, heartburn and gas reappear in the last trimester. This is when you would need to check your diet and employ ways to get rid of it.
Sometimes, certain women experience heartburn during pregnancy due to no reason at all. When this happens, you can employ some simple methods to get rid of it. Sip from a glass of chilled milk to which ice cubes have been added all day. This will relieve your acidity, as milk has the property to neutralize acids quite effectively. The coolness of the milk will also help to soothe your heartburn. Try to eat light. Stick to salads, yogurts, and light, non spicy meals. This will help you more than anything else. Chew on mint leaves. This will also help to relieve acidity. Drinking plenty of water will help to dilute the acid that is causing heartburn as well. Drinking plenty of water also generally leads to good health. But make sure you stay close to a bathroom, as you may need to visit it more frequently during pregnancy than you would normally have done.
