In order to lose weight, it is extremely important that you first stop putting on weight. This is simple enough to achieve. Check your diet against the following guidelines.

Are you eating anything fried all day? Are you sleeping within half an hour of eating? Are you eating too little of vegetables and fruits, and more of rice, breads and meat?

Do you take excessive salt in your diet? Do you eat sweets everyday? If you have answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you should stop that particular activity at once. All of these are silent ways in which extra weight creeps up on your body and stays there. After making any changes, within a week, you will notice that you have not only lost some weight, but you will also begin to feel more active and alert.

For a regular diet plan, it is essential for you to know that the biggest culprits in making you gain weight are carbohydrates. Cutting back on carbohydrates is the fastest way to keep weight off. But if you cut back on carbohydrates dramatically, you will also become weak. The trick is to strike the correct balance. Slowly and gradually, reduce your intake of sources of simple carbohydrates such as rice, bread, potatoes, pasta and sugars. For instance, if you are eating two slices of bread for breakfast, start eating one. Reduce your intake of rice by a quarter, and once your body gets used to it, to half. These changes can be made over a period of time for them to help you on a permanent basis. Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. Substitute any oily and fried snacks you might be eating with a fresh fruit. This will help you to lose weight in large measures. Small steps such as replacing your daily intake of sugar with a substitute will also make a big difference. If you have a sweet tooth, try to avoid sweets. You can take things like low fat yogurt with fruits and a sugar substitute. It is equally important that you also allow your body a weekly luxury of breaking away from this kind of diet and eating whatever you want. This will make sure your cravings do not return manifold. In any case, it is not good to totally eliminate anything from your daily life, as this would only cause your system to rebel beyond a point.
