For a patient of diabetes there is hope, as long as he learns the best way to eat healthy and stay healthy. How can eating healthy help a diabetes patient? When a person suffering from diabetes eats healthy food, this ensures that the blood glucose or the blood sugar keeps within range.


Although medicines are essential for the well being of the diabetes patient, physical activity is also essential.

Along with your regular diabetes medicines, you should also ensure that you follow a proper schedule of meals, your between meals snacks and some kind of physical activity.

One of the first things that you should remember is that all meals should be eaten at the correct time.


Try to avoid skipping meals. Regular meals are the first step to being healthy even with diabetes. You should cut down on food with high sugar content since these require very little digestion for the body to absorb them. As a result they cause the sudden rise of the blood sugar. You will have to cut down on the amount of fat that you consume. Fat is contained in high amounts in food items like oil, lard and butter. You should use these sparingly. If you do want to eat meat, you should opt for lean meat. You should try to avoid frying food. Instead you can bake or broil or even grill these food items. That way they will be healthy even as they taste good. You can also stay healthy by substituting your normal oil with a healthier option. Olive oil is believed to be the best oil and can replace your usual oil.

You should eat at least five portions of fresh fruits. These fruits will give your body the essential nutrients and minerals. It has been found that when you eat fruits regularly, you are also safe against heart diseases. In addition, the consumption of fruits does reduce the cholesterol. Pure fruit juices are also equally beneficial and can be consumed every single day.

Another change in your life that will make a significant difference is using less salt. If you can manage to cut down salt out of your diet altogether, you will certainly be helping yourself. You will also have to learn to limit your consumption of alcohol.
