The word scar comes from eschara, which means fireplace in Greek. True to the word to which they owe their name, Scars are difficult to deal with. they hang around after the injury or wound or sore is long gone.

And what's even worse is that fact that they impart no beauty of any sort whatsoever. Scars usually are pinkish patches that cover up the area affected due to the wound or sore. The extent of damage to the skin decides how bad the scar will be.

Scars occur due to damage to the deep dermis layer. Hence, if the damage is deep, the scar will be all the more hideous in its appearance.

Scars do take time to form - at times it takes months, at times it takes years. And once they form, eliminating them is a tough task. A number of factors affect the manner in which a scar is formed. Age, the blood supply to the affected area, the type of skin, the extent of the wound, etc, are some such factors.

You cannot mitigate a scar in its entirety. However, you can get them to look better. You can opt for surgical enhancements. Surgery can take care of the scar but in so doing leaves another. Then there's laser surgery that you might want to experiment with. Another known method to deal with scars is Z-plasty. Z-plasty relocates the scar to a point such that it blends with the creases on the skin.

If natural remedies are what you want to try out, those exist too. One such natural remedy is sandalwood paste mixed with black gram paste. Mix the pastes well and apply the resulting mixture to the spots on the skin affected by the scars. Another effective remedy is to rub the skin with cubes of ice. This helps to tighten the areas around the scar as well as the skin affected by the scar.
