Anemia is a condition which indicates a lower than normal hemoglobin count. This implies that the blood production in the body is low. It could be any kind of anemia which is affecting you.

However, in order to begin treating yourself, it is wiser to begin with a medical examination. It is not advisable to take just any medication for anemia. This is simply because anemia could be of three types – one where either red blood cells, white blood cells or platelets are being under produced.

Only a lab examination of your blood will be able to reveal which kind of anemia you have, so this makes it important for you to seek medical advice, rather than try self help.

In any case, it is better you try to change your diet rather than take medicines to cure anemia. Even a dietary change will go a long way in helping you with increasing production of blood cells in your body. An iron rich diet is the first order of the day if you are anemic. It is essential to include a lot of leafy greens and fresh green vegetables in your diet in every meal. You can do this by increasing your intake of salads, spinach, collard greens and mustard greens, as these will lead to addition of iron to your diet. Basically, an iron deficiency also leads to anemia. You should also up your intake of milk and milk products. Red meat is considered a rich source of iron, so you can add this as well as eggs to your diet. Soya products also contain large amounts of absorbable iron and will help you greatly in increasing your hemoglobin count. Added to this, you must take iron supplements as recommended by the doctor as well.
