A nail fungus infection generally affects one ore more of the nails and begins as a white or yellow spot under the tip of the nail. As the infection grows it spreads deeper into to the nail bed and causes nail discoloration and the thickening of the nail and the crumbling of the nail edges. If untreated, it can lead to the nail going completely rotten and the complete loss of the nail.
The nail infection generally develops due to a constant exposure to warm and moist environments, generally these kind of environments are found in sweaty shoes or public showers and locker rooms. Generally, the same fungus that causes the toenail fungus also causes athletes foot. The fungus is part of a group of fungi that are known as dermatophytes; however yeasts and molds can also cause this infection.
The fungi generally enter the body through a cut or a small gap between the nail and the nail bed.
The best way to treat a fungal infection is soak the affected nails in a tub of distilled vinegar. The vinegar helps in killing of the fungus effectively. Once you have showered apply the vinegar to the affected area and let it dry off completely for effective results. Make sure to always keep your feet as dry as possible and clean at all times. Tea tree oil is also been used to treat the infection, but use only one the two remedies. It is also advisable to consult your doctor in order to determine the severity of the infection because of the infection is severe then you will have to use prescription medicines in order to effectively kill off the fungus. Also during the course of treatment always remember to wear clean cotton socks as it help absorb sweat better and allows the foot to breathe.
