Cause For Joint Pain

From past 4-5 months I had pain in my knee joint and also in my index finger joint. Later I had pain in my spine, neck, ribcage and muscular pain. I feel as if my body is butchered and feel tired. Are these signs of Rheumatism. Please advice?

Firstly, rheumatism is only a term that is used for a group of diseases, many of which have absolutely nothing to do with each other. These include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatic fever, and sometimes any kind of back and joint pain. The only common factor in the diseases and medical conditions grouped under rheumatism is that they involve some kind of chronic physical pain, usually of the joints.

The term rheumatism is in fact mostly out of use today, since we now know that these are all different conditions, with different causes and treatments.

Coming to your case and the symptoms you have described, it is possible that you have developed one of the conditions that is grouped under rheumatism, but as mentioned before, this covers quite a long list. Rheumatoid arthritis (which is what is often meant by rheumatism) is rather unlikely, as it does not usually progress so quickly and also involves inflammation, which you have not mentioned at all.

From your description, the pain seems really terrible, and it usually takes several years for rheumatoid arthritis to reach this stage. Fibromyalgia is one strong possibility - it involves fatigue and severe muscular pain that is sometimes debilitating and affects day to day functioning, making even the most mundane activities very difficult. However, it too does not really develop this quickly.

I advise you to visit a doctor for a personal examination and diagnosis, partly because of how severe the pain has become in such a short time, and also because it is usually not possible to conclusively diagnose such problems without a thorough examination of the patient and the patient's medical history. Advising you upon some course of treatment is of course impossible right now, as it cannot be done without being able to diagnose the problem first.
