Depression is an illness, but unlike most other illnesses where there is a specific cause that can be targeted, depression has no bacterial or viral infection that can eliminated with medications. There is no wonder drug or remedy to cure depression. Natural remedies can however help to overcome depression.
Depression is a condition in which the afflicted individual’s mind and body begin to deteriorate and lapse into negativity. The illness can be so severe that the individual may be so overcome with negativity that performing routine tasks and daily chores may be a challenge. The individual is likely to be filled with feelings of unhappiness, bitterness, self loathing, guilt, betrayal, anger, despair, and hopelessness.
Depression can be caused by a variety of factors like ill health, physical injury, personal failures, emotional upheavals, and a variety of other diverse factors.
The effects of depression can be traumatic, with the sufferer feeling battered emotionally, physically and spiritually. If neglected, the problem will continue to spiral out of control leading to a viscous cycle. For this reason the first step towards a cure is acceptance that there is a problem, and then working towards finding a cure. Unfortunately it’s a lot more complicated than that, but great progress has been made in the direction, and there are plenty of skilled and qualified counselors and psychologists who can help overcome the problem. Self help and support groups are another phenomenon that has come to be very relevant in the treatment of many psychological conditions.
Counseling through visits to psychologists, and attendance at self help or support group meetings is essential. In addition, changes to lifestyle are necessary, so as to eliminate factors that contribute to and worsen the condition. Apart from these basic measures you can try out certain natural home remedies to facilitate the process. Relying solely on home remedies and failing to take any other action will do absolutely no good and only increase the risk of escalating the problem to the ore serious chronic depression.
Here are some natural remedies that can help combat depression. Some of these measures are aimed at reducing stress, while others are believed to stimulate certain senses and influence your moods.
- Taking up a discipline of physical fitness or even indulging in light exercises daily can significantly help reduce depression. Yoga is particularly noteworthy as it is specifically directed at mental health, not just physical.
- There are a variety of aromatherapy [practices that can help relieve depression and promote relaxation. Aromatherapy baths and soaks with oils like lavender and chamomile are believed to be very effective.
- The consumption of certain herbal teas is also believed to help relieve depression.
- Your diet affects your emotions more than you can imagine and it is therefore necessary to follow a healthy diet and regular eating habits.
