Jaundice is a condition that afflicts the liver. The condition is characterized by a yellowing of the skin and eyes. This symptom is caused due to the rise in bilirubin levels as a result of the liver’s inability to produce enough bile.
Jaundice may be caused as a result of obstruction of the liver ducts, but it can also be caused by a disease. In cases where the jaundice is caused by a disease, jaundice is merely a symptom, and treatment needs to address the underlying cause. Hemolytic anemia, blockage, acute hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease and pancreatic cancer are just some such causes. For this reason there is no wonder cure for jaundice.
Treatment for jaundice will vary depending on the cause. The treatment is not meant to alleviate the symptom, which is the jaundice, but to cure the underlying cause, which may be the obstruction or an infection or disease. Failure to treat the cause will merely prolong the condition. Home remedies can however help cope with jaundice, but any such remedies need to be taken in consultation with your doctor. When dealing with jaundice the most important and effective method of treatment is to follow a jaundice diet. In addition to this diet there are some home remedies that are believed to facilitate healing.
- Sugarcane juice is believed to be a very effective natural remedy for jaundice. You can add some roasted gram to the juice, but make sure to powder it first. This remedy has been used
- The Bael tree is believed to offer another remedy. Grind the leaves thoroughly and drink the concoction once daily.
- Add ten grams of powdered ginger to some jaggery and mix well. Add this mixture to a glass of lukewarm water, and drink this for a week on a daily basis.
- Radish makes for another popular jaundice remedy that is believed to be quite effective. Pound some radish leaves to extract the juice and consume this juice daily.
- A mixture of mashed banana and honey can also serve as a useful jaundice remedy. Consume this mixture twice a day.
- Drink a glass of buttermilk daily, for at least a week, with a pinch of black pepper added in.
The most effective natural treatment that is scientifically proven however is your diet. Follow a jaundice diet religiously and do not try to take the easy way out.
