Vitilgo is also commonly known as the white patch disease, because it is characterized by the appearance of an abundance of white patches all over the body of the patient. The other medical name for it is leucoderma. Most of the time, leucoderma is a hereditary disease.

This makes it particularly difficult to cure or control. However, this does not take it out of the realm of curing. The first thing you should do is find out if vitilgo runs in your family.

Then, you can map out a better plan for taking care of the problem, because you will be armed with your limitations. For, if you have indeed inherited the disease, it is entirely possible that you may not be able to get rid of it completely.

One of the first steps to take for patients of vitilgo is that they must not eat fish, or any other kind of seafood for that matter, as it is considered to be something that adds to the severity of the disease. It is also advisable to avoid eggs and meat to some extent, though this is not by any means necessary. Turmeric powder is particularly useful in getting rid of white patches. You can make a paste of turmeric powder, clarified butter and rose water and store this. Apply to your patches and leave on for about 30 minutes before you have a bath. This will work slowly and steadily to reduce the size of your patches. You can also have milk with half a teaspoon of turmeric powder added to it. If you do not like the taste, season this with a bit of honey. Ginger is also considered to be very useful in curing vitilgo. You can add it to your food, and even topically apply the juice to your patches for better results.
